Department of Pharmacy, University Medical Center Ho Chi Minh City, Makes Its Mark with 2 Gold Awards and 1 Silver Award at ACCP 2026
Recently, the delegation from the Department of Pharmacy at University Medical Center Ho Chi Minh City (UMC) made a notable mark at the 25th Asian Conference on Clinical Pharmacy (ACCP 2026), with all 3 scientific reports submitted receiving awards in the Oral Presentation category, comprising 2 Gold Awards and 1 Silver Award.
The conference took place from July 9 to 11, 2026, in Bangkok, Thailand, under the theme "Borderless Pharmacy Practice: The Collaboration for Sustainability and Cultural Integration." The event gathered experts, scientists, faculty, clinical pharmacists, and healthcare professionals from many countries to update on new evidence, share experience, and promote collaboration in pharmacy practice, aiming toward safe, effective, and sustainable patient care.
Specifically, Assoc. Prof. Dang Nguyen Doan Trang, PharmD, PhD, received a Gold Award for the report "A Survey on Perioperative Glucocorticoid Use at a University Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City."
Pharm. Nguyen Thien Dung received a Gold Award for the report "Therapeutic Drug Monitoring of Voriconazole and Population-Specific Trough Concentration Thresholds Predicting Hepatotoxicity and Neurotoxicity: A Single-Center Retrospective Study."
Pharm. Tran Trung Kien received a Silver Award for the report "Intrathecal/Intraventricular Colistin for Central Nervous System Infections after Neurosurgery: A Case Series Report in Vietnam."
Notably, all 3 studies stemmed from practical issues in treatment and medication use at the Hospital, focusing on practical topics such as perioperative glucocorticoid use, voriconazole drug level monitoring, and the treatment of central nervous system infections following surgery. The studies help bring clinical pharmacy practice closer to real-world treatment, aiming to optimize the effectiveness of medication use and ensure patient safety.
In addition to the award-winning reports, Assoc. Prof. Dang Nguyen Doan Trang was also honored to be invited by the Organizing Committee to present at the plenary session "Small steps, Immense impact: Strengthening global pharmacy practice through collaboration," alongside international experts in clinical pharmacy, including Prof. Alan Lau – University of Illinois at Chicago, USA; Assoc. Prof. Surakit Nathisuwan – Mahidol University, Thailand; and Assoc. Prof. Lita Chew – National University of Singapore.
Participating in the plenary session was an opportunity for UMC to share experience in developing clinical pharmacy activities, showcase efforts in multidisciplinary coordination, and strengthen academic connections with institutions in the region.
Sharing about the delegation's achievement at the conference, Assoc. Prof. Dang Nguyen Doan Trang, PharmD, PhD – Head of the Department of Pharmacy, UMC, said that having all 3 of the delegation's reports receive awards was a great joy and a recognition of the Department of Pharmacy's collective efforts in scientific research, clinical pharmacy practice, and multidisciplinary coordination.
According to Assoc. Prof. Dang Nguyen Doan Trang, the topics presented at ACCP 2026 all stemmed from real-world treatment issues, aiming toward optimizing medication use, improving treatment effectiveness, and ensuring patient safety. This achievement serves as motivation for the Department of Pharmacy team to continue learning, innovating, and contributing further to patient care at the Hospital.
Over the years, UMC has focused on developing clinical pharmacy practice grounded in real-world treatment, while strengthening coordination between pharmacists, physicians, nurses, and specialized units in medication management and monitoring treatment effectiveness and safety.
The achievement at ACCP 2026 not only recognizes the research capacity and clinical pharmacy practice of UMC's pharmacist team, but also demonstrates that studies stemming from real-world treatment at the Hospital are steadily contributing to regional academic forums, spreading Vietnam's professional experience to the international clinical pharmacy community.
