University Medical Center Ho Chi Minh City (UMC HCMC) is a Grade I public hospital, a specialized tertiary referral center under the management of the University Medical Center Ho Chi Minh City. Operating under the university-hospital model, UMC HCMC closely integrates clinical treatment, medical education, and scientific research.
The hospital was founded based on the dedication of generations of teachers from the University Medical Center Ho Chi Minh City. Their vision was to establish a model medical facility where medical faculty members could directly treat patients while simultaneously educating and passing on knowledge to future generations of physicians, similar to advanced university hospital models worldwide.

The predecessor of the hospital was the General Clinic with Inpatient Beds established in 1994. In response to the increasing demand for medical care, University Medical Center Ho Chi Minh City was officially founded in 2000, becoming the first "School-Hospital" model in the country. Since then, the hospital has continuously expanded in scale, expertise, and management capacity, gradually asserting its role as a prestigious academic medical center.

Currently, the Hospital is a high-tech specialized general hospital with 3 operational facilities, a capacity of 1,000 beds, a comprehensive system of specialties, and a highly qualified team of doctors. Each year, the hospital receives and treats millions of outpatients and performs numerous complex surgeries and interventions. These include advanced techniques such as kidney, liver, and heart transplants, as well as modern surgical and interventional methods in gastrointestinal, hepatobiliary, urological, cardiovascular, neurological, and musculoskeletal fields. The successful implementation of these techniques allows patients to access advanced treatments domestically, reducing the financial burden and ensuring continuous care throughout the treatment process.

As a university hospital, UMC HCMC places special emphasis on training and developing high-quality medical human resources. The hospital's doctors directly participate in patient care while also undertaking undergraduate and postgraduate teaching responsibilities. This integrated environment ensures that every medical decision is based on updated knowledge, ethical standards, and high responsibility, aiming for patient safety and efficacy.

Alongside training, scientific research is conducted systematically and linked to clinical practice. Many research findings have been directly applied to treatment, contributing to improved care outcomes, shorter recovery times, and enhanced quality of life for patients. For the hospital, research is not separate from reality but is a tool for improving treatment quality and sustainable medical development.
In management, UMC HCMC promotes comprehensive digital transformation and information technology application. Electronic medical records, management platforms, and patient support applications are operated to make the healthcare process more transparent, seamless, and convenient. Modern governance helps medical teams collaborate closely across specialties, enhancing safety, reducing errors, and optimizing treatment efficiency.

With unceasing efforts in professional expertise, training, research, and management, UMC HCMC has been recognized by the Party, the State, and the Ministry of Health with many noble titles, including the title of Labor Hero. The greatest recognition, however, remains the trust and satisfaction of millions of patients.

Entering a new stage of development, UMC HCMC remains steadfast in its orientation toward specialized development, international integration, and comprehensive digital transformation, aiming for the model of a "Smart Hospital – Happy People." Building on its foundation as a university hospital, the hospital is committed to continuously improving care quality, upholding professional standards, and serving patients, the community, and society sustainably.

The hospital implements numerous advanced and high-level techniques, enabling patients to access modern treatment methods domestically, significantly reducing the cost of seeking treatment abroad. The hospital has successfully performed many procedures such as kidney transplantation, liver transplantation, heart transplantation, as well as advanced endoscopic techniques in gastroenterology, hepatology, urology, cardiology, neurology, and musculoskeletal specialties…

The Hospital plays a vital role in training undergraduate and postgraduate healthcare professionals for the University Medical Center Ho Chi Minh City and other medical schools in Southern Vietnam. It serves as an international academic exchange environment, regularly welcoming global experts, colleagues, and students for study, collaboration, and professional exchange.

Aiming to become a model teaching hospital, the Hospital closely integrates clinical care, education, and scientific research. Every physician, educator, and scientist at UMC carries a dual mission: to care for and heal patients, while also inspiring and educating the next generation.

The Hospital actively promotes scientific research, establishing strong research groups with breakthrough, highly applicable projects. Its Clinical Research Unit and Clinical Research Network operate effectively, contributing to the development of a new generation of young researchers. Many scientific studies have been published in prestigious international journals, received professional awards, and are directly applied in clinical practice, bringing clear benefits to patients.

The Hospital develops on a foundation of modern governance, taking the lead in digital transformation and the comprehensive application of information technology. All operations are managed through an integrated software system developed in-house, in which the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) is considered one of the most complete systems in Vietnam. The Hospital consistently ranks among the top nationwide in quality, regularly achieving the highest scores in evaluations by the Ministry of Health, with patient satisfaction rates maintained above 90% and numerous international certifications in hospital management.
