University Medical Center Ho Chi Minh City and Sun Hospital Phu Quoc Sign Cooperation Agreement to Enhance Local Clinical Care Capacity
On the afternoon of September 8, 2026, University Medical Center Ho Chi Minh City (UMC) and Sun Hospital Phu Quoc, Sun Group Healthcare System officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), aiming to strengthen clinical collaboration, training, technology transfer, and scientific research.
Attending the ceremony on behalf of UMC were Assoc. Prof. Nguyen Hoang Bac, MD, PhD – Director of the Hospital, alongside leaders of relevant departments, centers, divisions, and units. Representing Sun Group were Nguyen Quang Thang, MD – Deputy Director of the Healthcare Division and Director of Sun Hospital Phu Quoc, accompanied by key leadership representatives of Sun Hospital Phu Quoc.
According to the Memorandum of Understanding, both parties agreed to cooperate across three core areas: clinical support through remote consultations, tele-expertise, and coordinated management of severe, complex cases; workforce education, talent development, and technology transfer; and strengthening scientific research, organizing specialized conferences, and sharing clinical practice experience.
Speaking at the ceremony, Assoc. Prof. Nguyen Hoang Bac, MD, PhD – Director of UMC, affirmed that by leveraging the strengths of a university hospital model, UMC holds substantial advantages in training, technology transfer, hospital administration, and human resource development. According to him, enhancing the capacity of a healthcare facility must be implemented synchronously—spanning physicians, nurses, pharmacists, and medical technicians, through to quality management, patient safety, and institutional operational governance.
Representing Sun Hospital Phu Quoc, Nguyen Quang Thang, MD – Deputy Director of the Healthcare Division and Director of Sun Hospital Phu Quoc, shared his expectations that both parties will promptly operationalize the cooperation agreements, particularly in clinical care, medical training, and clinical professional development. This milestone will pave the way for Sun Hospital Phu Quoc to progressively develop specialized clinical departments tailored to the healthcare needs of the local community.
Through this collaborative framework, University Medical Center Ho Chi Minh City and Sun Hospital Phu Quoc aim to establish a sustainable mechanism for long-term clinical cooperation, focusing on workforce development, expanding technical implementation, and enhancing on-site patient management capacity. Consequently, patients in Phu Quoc will be afforded optimal access to appropriate specialized medical services directly within their locality, while ensuring prompt, seamless referral to tertiary care whenever necessary.
