Atherosclerotic plaque in arteries is a "time bomb" that causes heart attacks, but it cannot always be detected by conventional methods. For the first time in Vietnam, an advanced technology has been applied at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital Ho Chi Minh City, helping doctors detect early, intervene in time, and protect patients' lives.
NIRS - IVUS is a new technology device that combines intravascular ultrasound and near‑infrared spectroscopy, helping doctors identify high‑risk, vulnerable atherosclerotic plaques by determining the lipid core burden index – a risk factor for cardiovascular diseases.

This technology is already present in many countries around the world, and it appears for the first time in Vietnam at Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital. According to Associate Professor Dr. Trần Đức Trung, this technology helps prevent the risk of myocardial infarction and cardiovascular death for patients by early intervention on high‑risk, vulnerable atherosclerotic plaques that cannot be seen with the naked eye.
