Organ Donation
Organ transplantation is a surgical procedure in which a diseased or non-functioning organ is removed and replaced with all or part of a corresponding organ from another person (the donor) in order to restore the recipient’s bodily function. The most commonly transplanted organ is the kidney, followed by the liver, heart, pancreas, and lungs. Today, organ transplantation is the only method that can save lives, prolong survival, and significantly improve the quality of life for many patients.
The University Medical Center Ho Chi Minh City is one of the healthcare institutions in Southern Vietnam that has been implementing organ and tissue transplantation activities since 2018. With a highly trained professional team and a well-coordinated inter-hospital and multidisciplinary system, the hospital not only performs transplant procedures but also actively promotes community awareness and encourages people to register for organ donation after death.
