Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital affirms its exemplary position in quality improvement and patient safety

On August 8, 2024, at Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital, the Ministry of Health delegation conducted an inspection and evaluation of the hospital's quality for the year 2023 and the first six months of 2024. The delegation was led by Associate Professor Dr. Nguyễn Trọng Khoa – Deputy Head of the Department of Medical Examination and Treatment Management, Ministry of Health.

Opening remarks of the program, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyễn Trọng Khoa said: “The set of 83 hospital quality criteria has created a strong transformation for healthcare facilities, aiming at the satisfaction of patients and medical staff. The inspection and quality assessment rounds are an opportunity to review professional quality, quality management and patient safety, as well as a chance to share experiences and continue improvement.”

After hearing the Hospital report the results of its self-assessment and quality evaluation, the delegation inspected and conducted a field survey with 8 professional groups, aiming to record the Hospital's achievements against the set of 83 hospital quality criteria. Dr. Nguyen Trong Khoa commented: “The delegation highly appreciates the Hospital's professional competence and management model in handling a large volume of work under overload conditions. The Hospital is a leading unit in quality management, constantly innovating and applying modern technology to improve service quality, meeting patients' needs comprehensively. The Hospital should continue to promote modern management methods and share experiences with other hospitals, contributing to the improvement of Vietnam's healthcare quality.”

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyễn Hoàng Bắc – Hospital Director expressed sincere thanks to the Inspection Team for their detailed, objective evaluations and thanked the hospital staff and workers who have always strived to satisfy patients. He emphasized: “With a spirit of openness, the hospital has acknowledged the suggestions of the Inspection Team and will continue to improve quality. Since its establishment, the Hospital has focused on patient safety, providing medical services with professional quality and excellent patient experience. Quality and patient safety management is an ongoing journey, requiring solidarity, responsibility, and continuous effort from the staff and workers of the hospital. The hospital culture must be a culture of quality, a culture of safety, patient‑centered and continuously improving, so that patients always receive the best care.”

The University Hospital of Medicine and Pharmacy, Ho Chi Minh City has 3 facilities with 1,000 beds and 4,216 medical staff, and has achieved the targets set for 2023 and the first six months of 2024. The hospital constantly seeks and develops deep specialized techniques, achieving many proud accomplishments, including techniques performed for the first time in Vietnam. The application of digital transformation in the management of diagnosis and treatment is an important strategy, with electronic medical records as a central task, which has greatly supported professional activities, scientific research, and hospital management. Especially the application of AI in supporting diagnosis and treatment.
