Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital launches high-tech 3D breast X-ray machine
July 18, the University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital Ho Chi Minh City organized the launch ceremony of the high-tech 3D breast X-ray system.
Speaking at the ceremony, Associate Professor – PhD – Dr. Nguyễn Hoàng Bắc, Director of the University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital Ho Chi Minh City, emphasized: "We are committed to continuous innovation to improve the quality of medical care, in which breast cancer screening is a top priority. Implementing the 3D breast X-ray system is not only a technological advancement, but also reflects a patient-centered approach, helping to detect disease earlier, treat more effectively, and reduce the burden on patients and society."

Specialist doctor Lê Hồng Cúc, President of the Vietnam Breast Imaging Sub‑Committee, shares that breast cancer is currently the most common cancer among Vietnamese women. However, if detected at an early stage, the success rate of treatment can reach up to 90%. Therefore, regular screening, especially for women aged 40 and over, is an important measure to detect early, reduce mortality rates, while also minimizing invasive treatment interventions and increasing the possibility of breast‑conserving surgery.
The 3D breast X‑ray system deployed at the hospital uses modern digital tomosynthesis techniques, producing sharp multi‑layer images, helping doctors accurately detect even very small lesions, even in cases of dense breast tissue, which has been a major challenge for traditional methods. Associate Professor – PhD – Dr. Võ Tấn Đức, Head of the Imaging Department, University Medical and Pharmacy Hospital, Ho Chi Minh City, said: "3D breast X‑ray allows us to detect micro‑calcifications or small lesions that traditional 2D breast X‑ray easily misses. This is especially significant for women with dense breast tissue—a group that represents a high proportion in Vietnam. The dual‑energy imaging technology improves diagnostic accuracy while shortening time and reducing costs for patients".

Specialist doctor Nguyễn Triệu Vũ, Head of the Breast Unit, emphasized that the accompanying modern biopsy system also allows high-precision access and intervention of lesions. As a result, doctors can detect small lesions at a very early stage, increasing diagnostic accuracy and enabling timely, appropriate interventions.

Increase the chance of early detection of breast cancer thanks to the FujiFilm 3D Breast X-ray machine
Mr. Mamoru Morota, General Director of FUJIFILM Vietnam Co., Ltd., shared at the event: “We are proud to accompany Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital in the journey of modernizing imaging diagnostics and enhancing breast cancer screening capabilities in Vietnam. With advanced technology, the Fujifilm 3D breast X-ray system has been widely applied in many countries and we believe this will be a powerful tool to support Vietnamese doctors in diagnosis and treatment.”
