On September 21, 2025, at the Scientific Conference of the Ho Chi Minh City Infection Control Association, Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital (BV ĐHYD) was honored with the “Outstanding Hand Hygiene Award 2025”. This is the first national-level award organized by the Vietnam Infection Control Society (VNICS), aimed at promoting effective hand hygiene practices, contributing to the safety of patients, healthcare staff, and the community.

The competition involved major hospitals nationwide, undergoing two rigorous evaluation rounds, self-scoring using the “Hand Hygiene Award” toolset and on-site verification. The “Outstanding Hand Hygiene Award 2025” earned by BV ĐHYD stems from the comprehensive implementation of the World Health Organization (WHO) multimodal strategy, including Infrastructure: over 2,000 hand hygiene points with alcohol‑based solution and soap, plus 18 surgical hand hygiene points meeting standards; Communication‑training: posters, flyers, visual materials, integrated into UMC Care, UMC Home and the internal website, regular training programs and participation in World Hand Hygiene Day on May 5, continuously maintained since 2012 (15 programs); Monitoring: combined direct observation, camera application and software to ensure objectivity and timely feedback for each department/room; Research‑innovation: numerous scientific works on hand hygiene have been published in reputable journals, confirming the sustainability of the infection control strategy.

Prof. Dr. Huỳnh Minh Tuấn - Head of the Infection Control Department shared: “This achievement is the result of the policy of the Management Board and the commitment spirit of all hospital staff and workers. We will continue to improve, build a sustainable safety culture, putting patients at the center.”

The “Outstanding Hand Hygiene 2025” award is a source of pride for ĐHYD Hospital, and also emphasizes the message "a small action – hand hygiene – brings great safety", contributing to creating a high-quality medical examination and treatment environment, aiming for international standards.
