Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy receives the title “Labor Hero of the Renovation Era” for the period 2009 - 2019

On 12/01/2021, Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy (ĐHYD TPHCM) solemnly organized the ceremony to receive the title “Labor Hero of the Renovation Era” for the period 2009 – 2019 and presented medals, certificates of merit, and prestigious titles to collectives and individuals who have achieved outstanding performance. This event aims to recognize the extremely important contributions of the university to the development of the nation's healthcare sector.

Attending the ceremony were Comrade Đặng Thị Ngọc Thịnh - Member of the Central Party Committee, Vice President of the State, First Vice President of the Central Labor and Reward Council; Comrade Lương Hồng Quang – Head of the Labor and Reward Department of the President's Office and other senior officials of the Departments of the President's Office. On the side of the Ministry of Health were Prof. Dr. Nguyễn Thanh Long – Party Affairs Secretary, Minister of Health and other officials who are leaders of the Ministry's Office, Departments, Health Department. On the side of the Ministry of Education and Training were Comrade Nguyễn Văn Phúc - Deputy Minister of Education – Training. On the side of the city leadership were Mr. Dương Anh Đức – Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee and other leaders of the city's practice hospitals, medical and pharmacy universities nationwide together with media agencies, broadcast stations. Prof. Dr. Trần Diệp Tuấn – Party Committee Secretary, Chairman of the School Council; Associate Prof. Dr. Nguyễn Hoàng Bắc – Vice Principal, Director of Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital (BV ĐHYD TPHCM) and the teachers who were formerly members of the Party Committee, Board of Directors across periods; the teachers who are leaders of Departments/ Centers/ Faculties of BV ĐHYD TPHCM; the units belonging to, under BV ĐHYD TPHCM across periods together with all staff, employees, and students of the school.

At the program, on behalf of the Party and State leadership, Vice President Đặng Thị Ngọc Thịnh presented the title “Labor Hero of the Renovation Period” to ĐHYD TPHCM for its outstanding special achievements in labor and innovation during the 2009–2019 period, contributing to the cause of building socialism and defending the Fatherland.

Speaking at the ceremony, Professor Dr. Nguyen Thanh Long highly praised the achievements the school has attained over more than 70 years of establishment and development, becoming a core unit in training high-quality medical human resources, providing multi-disciplinary health training with programs aligned with international integration trends, contributing significantly to the mission of protecting, caring for, and improving the health of the people. The school is a leading unit in the health sector in terms of university autonomy with many scientific research projects, topics published in reputable international scientific journals. It is also a pioneer with the first school‑affiliated hospital model in the country, Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital becoming a shining point with over 2 million patients visiting for examination and treatment each year.

Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thanh Long emphasized that in the upcoming period, the university needs to strengthen the heroic tradition, seize opportunities to realize university autonomy, establish distinctive world‑class values, and contribute to the education, training, and development of the Vietnamese healthcare sector. The university will continue to effectively carry out the Board of Trustees' tasks regarding the development strategy, organizational structure…in admissions, training; invest in applying information technology to management training and building a national database on healthcare human resources. Focus on accelerating comprehensive fundamental reforms in training healthcare personnel towards internationally recognized integration, striving to become a medical training center in Vietnam and worldwide. Regarding medical examination and treatment, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thanh Long stated that it is necessary to continue improving the quality and efficiency of medical care, actively implement telemedicine programs so that people can use quality health services directly at the facilities; vigorously reform administration, strengthen the application of information technology in medical care, enhance patient satisfaction, meet the standards of the Ministry of Health and aim for the international JCI standard. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thanh Long wishes that the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health will establish a network of hospitals, not only serving the residents of Ho Chi Minh City well, but also in other areasthe Central region, the Central Highlands, and the Southwest region.

Speaking at the program, Associate Professor Dr. Trần Diệp Tuấn said: “The university is very proud of the journey so far, becoming a key university with prestige, a solid position and a far‑reaching influence. This is the effort of many generations of leaders, teachers, and the whole staff, officials, and students of the university. With its development strategy, Ho Chi Minh City University of Education continues to focus on innovating the training program towards integration, ensuring quality according to international standards, elevating scientific research capacity and international publications, and expanding the community network.”

On this occasion, Vice President Đặng Thị Ngọc Thịnh presented the Second-Class Labor Medal to Prof. Dr. NGỤT Trần Thiện Trung and the Third-Class Labor Medal to Prof. Dr. TTND Trương Quang Bình. At the same time, the title “Outstanding Physician” was awarded to 16 individuals; a commendation from the Prime Minister was given to 13 individuals and the 2020 Exemplary Teacher Award was presented. Among them, Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital is honored to have 1 individual awarded the title “People’s Physician”, 3 individuals awarded the title “Outstanding Physician” and 5 individuals receiving a commendation from the Prime Minister, including:
