Guide to confirming health insurance when booking appointments on UMC Care
Patients who use Health Insurance (BHYT) when consulting at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City can now verify their BHYT information immediately when booking an appointment on the UMC Care app.
The new feature helps patients proactively complete the procedures before arriving at the hospital, reducing waiting time at the reception desk. After booking and successful payment, the system automatically checks the BHYT card information and provides feedback, helping patients prepare all documents before the appointment day.
Implementation guide (step-by-step details)
- Step 1. Choose booking information: Patients book an appointment, select the record and booking details: Specialty, Doctor, Date – time of appointment.
- Step 2. Choose the type of Health Insurance beneficiary: Select Has BHYT, then choose 1 of 3 beneficiary groups:
(1) Have a BHYT card registered for initial medical examination at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital: Hospital staff, employees and students of the University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Ho Chi Minh City,...
(2) Have a follow-up appointment as scheduled on the health insurance prescription of ĐHYD Hospital: The referral letter currently in use, still valid and has a follow-up appointment as scheduled on the health insurance prescription of ĐHYD Hospital
(3) Have a correct referral for health insurance to ĐHYD Hospital: Referral letter/transfer form for health insurance medical examination and treatment facilities is valid for first use within 10 working days from the signing date
- Step 3. Register insurance
3.1 Check administrative information & card information: ID number/Passport, health insurance card, specialty registered for health insurance
3.2 Attach documents for each category
Patient has a BHYT registration initial medical examination at ĐHYD Hospital: Attach image of the ID card ID card/ citizen ID card
Patient has a follow-up appointment as scheduled on the BHYT prescription from ĐHYD Hospitalexamined on the correct day & correct specialty: The system will automatically retrieve the most recent attached file that has been confirmed valid to display (NB no attachment needed)
Patient has a BHYT transfer certificate for the correct referral to ĐHYD Hospital (new referral used for the first time): Attach image of the ID card ID card/ citizen ID card and transfer certificate
3.3 Sign the consensus commitment: Check Confirm agreement the terms in the commitment and sign confirmation directly on the app.
- Step 4. Booking payment: The patient pays the fees for the specialties they have booked. Payment methods include: e-wallet, bank card, QR Code, medical examination card
- Step 5. Generate electronic examination ticket
After successful payment, the system creates electronic medical examination ticket, including:
Examination serial number
Patient information
Time, clinic room
Examination guide
- Step 6. The system automatically checks health insurance card information
The system will check: administrative information, card information, card validity period, initial medical examination registration location, health insurance card number.
Case when the system check valid: The patient follows the examination instructions on the medical examination form (The patient returns directly to the examination room. The patient with a new referral letter goes to the registration desk on the ground floor, Area A to check information and confirm health insurance)
Case when the system check is invalid: The patient goes to the registration desk on the ground floor, Area A to check information and confirm health insurance.
** Note: In the following cases, patients are requested to select no health insurance when booking an appointment on the UMC Care app and go directly to the registration desk on the ground floor of area A for assistance:
Patients suffering from rare disease groups, serious illnesses, or conditions requiring high‑tech services (According to Appendix I of Circular 01/2025/TT-BYT).
Patients who have a proper health insurance transfer certificate to Ho Chi Minh City Hospital of Dermatology and Venereology and have a certificate confirming exemption from co‑payment for the year.
Patients who have a proper health insurance transfer certificate to Ho Chi Minh City Hospital of Dermatology and Venereology and have a certificate confirming they belong to a poor household, near‑poor household, or newly graduated near‑poor household of Ho Chi Minh City
Confirming health insurance at the time of booking reduces procedures at the reception desk, saves waiting time, and allows patients to be more proactive and reassured during the examination process.
