Overview

The Center for specialized diagnosis and treatment of thoracic and vascular diseases applies modern minimally invasive endoscopic surgery, endovascular interventions, and Hybrid surgery techniques to provide high‑efficacy, safe, and aesthetic treatment for patients.

The thorax is the anatomical region containing vital organs such as the heart, major blood vessels, both lungs, and the mediastinum, playing an essential role in sustaining life. Thoracic and vascular diseases are often highly dangerous, progress rapidly, and require specialized treatment.

Established in 2015, the Department of Thoracic and Vascular Surgery at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital, Ho Chi Minh City has continuously developed and become one of the hospital’s key specialized units in thoracic and vascular surgery.

The department brings together physicians trained both domestically and abroad, with rich clinical experience, constantly updating the latest medical advances to provide optimal treatment solutions for patients.

With the motto “Precision to every vessel”, the department always aims for the safest, most effective, and highest‑quality treatment for patients.

The Department of Thoracic and Vascular Surgery receives examinations and treatments for many complex diseases belonging to two main areas:

Thoracic diseases

  • Lung cancer
  • Mediastinal tumor
  • Pneumothorax, pleural effusion, pericardial effusion
  • Thoracic deformities (pectus excavatum, pectus carinatum, sternal cleft)
  • Thyroid diseases requiring surgery
  • Lung, mediastinal, thoracic diseases requiring surgical intervention

Vascular diseases

  • Aneurysm, dissection of the thoracic and abdominal aorta
  • Arterial stenosis, peripheral arterial disease
  • Lower limb venous insufficiency
  • Venous thrombosis
  • Venous compression syndrome, pelvic congestion syndrome
  • Vascular tumors, congenital vascular malformations

Strength

The Thoracic – Vascular Department is a pioneering unit applying many modern and minimally invasive treatment techniques, shortening recovery time and improving patients' quality of life. The department continuously pioneers and leads the application of new treatment techniques worldwide, especially in venous thrombosis, vascular malformations, chest wall deformities… compared to other medical facilities.

Thoracic endoscopic surgery (VATS) and Robot surgery: Widely applied in treatment

  • Lung cancer

  • Mediastinal tumor

  • Pneumothorax

  • Chest wall deformities

Endoscopic and Robot surgeries enable more precise and effective operations, reduce postoperative pain, are minimally invasive, allow rapid recovery and have high aesthetic results.

Hybrid Surgery
Combines open surgery and endovascular intervention in a single treatment process to enhance effectiveness and safety, expand the treatment scope, especially for complex cases.

Endovascular intervention

  • Placement of aortic stent graft

  • Intervention for peripheral arterial disease

  • Intervention for venous stenosis, venous compression syndrome

  • Intervention for congenital vascular malformations (arterial-venous malformations, venous malformations, hemangiomas)

Minimally invasive treatment

  • Treatment of lower limb varicose veins with endovenous laser, high-frequency waves, bioadhesive

  • Thyroid nodule treatment with high-frequency waves (RFA)

  • Other modern interventional techniques
