At the Emergency Department of Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital, a professional team equipped with modern facilities, experience, and dedication is always ready to receive emergency admissions. Especially for time‑critical emergency cases, the department maximizes multidisciplinary, flexible, swift, and precise coordination in diagnosis and situation management to seize the “golden time” and save patients from the brink of life and death.
Unfazed day and night, regardless of case severity, the staff at the Emergency Department always welcome patients warmly, with dedication, and consistently apply advanced techniques in treatment when patients require emergency care. Consequently, over many years of operation, the department has become a trusted destination for millions of patients placing their trust.
Strength
The Emergency Department of University Medical Center of Ho Chi Minh City is a member of the Ho Chi Minh City Emergency Resuscitation Association and also a member of the Vietnam Emergency Resuscitation and Antidote Association, with expertise in handling all emergency cases from various specialties, ensuring rapid and accurate care, and cooperating well with specialties in emergency consultations and inter‑hospital consultations.

Training & Research
In addition to its professional work, the Emergency Department expands international cooperation, receiving medical students from hospitals and universities in European and Asian countries for internships, training undergraduate and postgraduate trainees, extending training and technology transfer, and providing professional support to local hospitals to further enhance emergency expertise and experience, increasing treatment opportunities for many more people.
The Emergency Department provides education and training for undergraduate and postgraduate trainees, including medical students, Specialist Level I (CKI) physicians, Specialist Level II (CKII) physicians, master’s students, and doctoral candidates. In addition, the department conducts Continuing Medical Education (CME) programs such as training for emergency physicians and nurses, as well as pre-hospital emergency care and first aid training.
Beyond its internal activities, the Emergency Department of Bệnh viện Đại học Y Dược TP. Hồ Chí Minh also expands training initiatives and technology transfer programs, while providing professional support to local hospitals. These efforts aim to further enhance emergency care expertise and clinical experience, thereby increasing treatment opportunities and improving life‑saving outcomes for a larger population.

Equipments
The Emergency Department is equipped with modern devices and machinery that fully meet the needs for first aid and emergency care, such as ventilators, temperature control systems, HFNC machines, blood gas analyzers, defibrillators, ultrasound machines, monitors, electrocardiogram devices, electric infusion pumps, drop counters, blood warmers, cardiac output monitors, bedside X‑ray machines, CT scanners, MRI, DSA…
In addition, the department has a system of 30 dedicated beds equipped with advanced equipment, always ready to care for and monitor patients 24/7.
Furthermore, the department has 8 modern ambulances, fully meeting the need for patient transport in any emergency situation.
Staff
The Emergency Department currently has over 20 doctors, 80 nurses, 14 medical assistants, and 12 medical secretaries. The team of doctors – nurses – medical assistants is responsible for the professional treatment and care of patients; additionally, the department has an active medical secretarial unit that supports and guides patients and their families through hospital admission procedures, health insurance, social insurance, and administrative paperwork. Among them, 50% of doctors have more than 10 years of emergency experience, over 90% of doctors hold postgraduate degrees, more than 50% of nurses are Master's and Bachelor's degree holders in Nursing, and medical assistants and medical secretaries have associate or higher degrees.
Each shift team consists of one senior doctor and one senior nurse who are the leaders, continuously trained, with extensive professional experience, capable of management and good teamwork coordination, while closely monitoring the work of members. The shift teams operate in a tightly linked manner like a chain link. These professional and managerial activities are evaluated and self‑evaluated monthly, continuously, appropriately, and fairly.
