Overview

In recent years, there has been a marked increase in endocrine disorders such as diabetes, obesity, thyroid disease... These are among the conditions that can cause organ dysfunction, seriously affecting patients' health.

Therefore, with the mission of protecting public health, the Endocrinology Department of the University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City (BV ĐHYD) gathers top experts to provide modern treatment methods, becoming a reputable unit that earns the public's trust in diagnosing and treating these diseases.

In addition, the Endocrinology Department is a specialized training center for endocrinology at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Ho Chi Minh City; the physicians also serve as lecturers training general physicians and postgraduate doctors. We also actively participate in numerous domestic and multinational research projects.

Strength

The Department has established and developed multidisciplinary collaborative groups to improve the quality of diagnosis and treatment of specialized endocrine diseases: 

  • Diabetic foot group: collaborating with physicians from the Cardiothoracic Vascular Department, Orthopedic Trauma Department, Reconstructive - Aesthetic Department, and Rehabilitation Department to provide limb-sparing treatment for diabetic patients.

  • Thyroid group: collaborating with surgeons, Oncology Department, Pathology Department, and Nuclear Medicine Department to provide multidisciplinary treatment for patients with thyroid cancer. The multidisciplinary team model demonstrates outstanding diagnostic and therapeutic effectiveness for patients.

  • Pituitary group: collaborating with the Neurology Department and Radiology Department to develop treatment protocols.

  • Adrenal group: collaborating with the Nephrology Department and Radiology Department to treat adrenal tumors.

  • Obesity group: collaborating with surgeons, Nutrition – Dietetics Department, Clinical Psychology Unit, and Rehabilitation Department to provide suitable weight loss solutions for patients.

  • Growth delay group: collaborating with pediatric specialists to early detect growth disorders in children and achieving rapid results with endocrine therapy.

  • Gestational diabetes group: collaborating with Obstetrics Department physicians and Nutrition – Dietetics Department to ensure the health of pregnant women during pregnancy.

Training & Research

With a progressive spirit, scientific research is always a field that the Department focuses on, collaborates with, and exchanges experience with domestic and international medical institutions, implementing new methods to serve screening, diagnosis and treatment of endocrine diseases. Building on successes, the entire team of physicians continuously enhances their professionalism and academic knowledge, bringing patients confidence and health. The Department strives wholeheartedly with the vision to become the leading Endocrinology Center in Vietnam and meet international standards. 

Deserving of continuous efforts, the Endocrinology Department of University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital has been honored as an “Excellent Labor Collective” for many consecutive years, proudly receiving commendations from the Prime Minister and the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee for its medical examination and treatment work. 

Under the leadership of Associate Professor Dr. Tran Quang Nam – Head of the Endocrinology Department of University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital, together with the dedication of the highly skilled medical team, the Department not only fulfills its role as physicians but also strives to fulfill its mission as educators. Moreover, to continuously update knowledge, the Department regularly organizes professional development and skill training classes with experts from Thailand and Harvard University. At the same time, the Department participates in short-term training courses on endocrine diseases in many developed countries such as Taiwan, South Korea, the United States… 

Recently, the Department has been conducting numerous multinational research projects, published in prestigious medical journals both domestically and internationally. Regarding the vital mission of public health education, the Department actively participates in health counseling programs, patient clubs, and publishes guidance materials on health care, disease prevention, and prevention of complications from endocrine disorders. 

Every year, the Department receives and trains undergraduate and postgraduate students, actively transferring techniques to provincial-level doctors in the practice of caring for patients with diabetes through the collaborative program between the Diabetes Management Unit, the Endocrinology and Diabetes Society of Vietnam, the Steno Diabetes Center – Denmark; as well as the collaborative program between the Department, the Endocrinology and Diabetes Society of Vietnam and experts from the American Diabetes Association… 

Equipments

The Department has invested in comfortable facilities and advanced equipment to quickly and accurately perform procedures, diagnostic and therapeutic tests for endocrine diseases such as glucose tolerance test, salt suppression test, hypoglycemia test, dexamethasone suppression tests, thyroid nodule aspiration, debridement of diabetic wounds, installation of negative pressure suction devices...
