Since its establishment, the Ophthalmology Department of the University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital, Ho Chi Minh City has been regarded as a reliable center for eye examinations and treatments. The department's clinical team consists of Associate Professors, PhDs, Masters, and leading physicians of the Ophthalmology Faculty of the University of Medicine and Pharmacy, specialized in many ophthalmic fields such as cataract diseases, glaucoma, eye trauma, posterior segment diseases, pediatric ophthalmology, refractive surgery, and ophthalmic laser.

With extensive clinical experience and dedication, our medical team at the Department of Ophthalmology strives daily to safeguard vision and enhance eye health for every patient.
Strength
The Department of Ophthalmology at University Medical Center HCMC diagnoses and treats a wide range of anterior and posterior segment eye conditions. We specialize in advanced ophthalmic procedures, including mature cataracts, subluxated lenses, traumatic cataracts, uveitis-associated cataracts, glaucoma, high myopia, and post-LASIK complications. We also provide comprehensive care for eyelid and lacrimal disorders, refractive errors, retinal diseases, and ophthalmic laser therapies.

In addition, the Eye Department collaborates with other clinical departments to treat and operate on eye patients who also have severe systemic diseases such as heart failure, kidney failure, cirrhosis, hypertension, diabetes, thrombocytopenia, ... which other eye specialty hospitals cannot treat.
Training & Research
In addition to its professional strengths, the Eye Department also collaborates with the Experimental Surgery Center of University Medical Center Ho Chi Minh City to train Phaco surgery, ophthalmic laser, and imaging diagnosis of posterior segment diseases. Moreover, the advantage of being equipped with modern, high-quality examination, diagnostic, and treatment facilities enables the department to collaborate and provide specialist support to partner hospitals and lower-level hospitals, delivering high treatment efficacy for patients.

Modern diagnostic equipment for early detection and accurate monitoring of disease progression:
Accurate, multifunctional visual acuity testing machine.
Automatic refractometer.
Microscope examination system with camera for photography and video recording to aid diagnosis and monitor lesions.
Corneal topography imaging device to identify corneal diseases and refractive abnormalities.
Ocular ultrasound machine.
Color fundus photography machine for screening and detecting retinal and optic nerve diseases.
OCT-A device: Enables early detection, precise diagnosis, and monitoring of retinal, choroidal, and optic nerve diseases, especially capturing choroidal and retinal blood vessels without the need for contrast dye injection.

Equipment for high-tech treatments:
Phaco surgery system: Capable of intervening in patients with grade V lens hardness; suitable for complex cataract cases such as subluxated cataract, traumatic cataract, cataract due to posterior capsular inflammation, cataract combined with glaucoma, cataract with severe myopia, patients who have undergone LASIK; resolves complications in previously operated patients; performs implantation of high-quality, versatile intraocular lenses for patients with high demands such as toric IOLs, multifocal lenses,...
YAG Laser: Preventive and therapeutic for glaucoma; treats posterior capsule opacification after cataract surgery; treats the iris membrane.

Equipment for high-tech treatments:
Phacoemulsification Surgery System: Capable of treating hypermature/grade V hard cataracts and complex clinical cases, including subluxated lenses, ocular trauma, uveitis-induced cataracts, glaucoma-associated cataracts, and high myopia. The system effectively manages post-surgical complications and performs precise implantation of premium intraocular lenses (IOLs), such as toric and multifocal IOLs, tailored to individual patient needs.
