Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital wins the "Excellent Hand Hygiene 2025" award

On September 21, 2025, at the Scientific Conference of the Ho Chi Minh City Infection Control Association, the University Medical and Pharmacy Hospital of Ho Chi Minh City (BV ĐHYD) was honored with the “Outstanding Hand Hygiene Award 2025”. This is a national-level award for the first time organized by the Vietnam Infection Control Society (VNICS), aimed at disseminating effective hand hygiene practices, contributing to the safety of patients, healthcare staff, and the community.

The competition involved major hospitals nationwide, undergoing two rigorous evaluation rounds, self-scoring using the “Hand Hygiene Award” toolkit and on-site verification. The “Outstanding Hand Hygiene Award 2025” achieved by BV ĐHYD stems from the comprehensive implementation of the World Health Organization (WHO) multimodal strategy, including Infrastructure: over 2,000 hand hygiene stations with alcohol-based solution and soap, plus 18 surgical hand hygiene points meeting standards; Communication – training: posters, flyers, visual materials, integrated into UMC Care, UMC Home and the internal website, periodic training programs and participation in World Hand Hygiene Day on 05/05, continuously maintained since 2012 (15 programs); Monitoring: combining direct observation, camera applications and software to ensure objectivity, providing timely feedback to each department/unit; Research – improvement: many

Scientific work on hand hygiene has been published in reputable journals, affirming sustainability in the infection control strategy.
