Spreading patient safety culture & honoring AI innovation in designing health education communication products
On September 17, 2025, the University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital of Ho Chi Minh City (BV ĐHYD) organized a mid-year ceremony responding to World Patient Safety Day and the closing ceremony, awarding the AI Application Competition in designing health education communication products. The event was attended by the Hospital's Board of Directors together with a large number of staff and workers, strongly disseminating the global slogan: “Patient safety from the start – Safety for patients from the beginning”.
The highlight of the program was the portion where healthcare staff signed a commitment to act for patient safety, shared improvement initiatives contributing to enhancing hospital quality and patient safety on the Kaizen board, and awarded prizes to poster, video, brochure, and application products recognized for their creativity, applicability, and high practical value in community health education communication. Many award-winning products will continue to be implemented at the Hospital and on digital platforms, helping bring official medical knowledge closer to the public.

In the opening speech, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyễn Hoàng Bắc – Director of BV ĐHYD shared: “Patients all wish to receive effective, safe treatment and rapid recovery. At BV ĐHYD, we define patient safety as the top priority in all treatment, research, training, and management activities. The quality management system and safety indicators are closely monitored, and the ‘no-blame, learning together’ culture is spread so that each healthcare staff acts for patient safety. Responding to the series of World Patient Safety Day activities, the AI Application Competition in designing health education communication products has demonstrated the spirit of creativity and innovation among the Hospital units. AI application products not only help disseminate official medical knowledge to the community, but also affirm the role of technology in supporting care and improving the quality of health services. Building a patient safety culture is the responsibility of all staff and workers, as well as requiring the companionship of patients, families, and society at large. This is precisely the foundation for BV ĐHYD to develop professionally, sustainably, and humanely.”

During the launch ceremony, the leadership and staff – workers raised the flag and candles high, chanting the slogan “BV ĐHYD TPHCM – Commitment to act for patient safety”, affirming their determination to create a safe, standard, and humane medical environment.

Since 2019, September 17 has been designated by WHO as World Patient Safety Day to raise awareness and call for global action. Each year the event has its own theme. In 2025, the chosen theme is “Safe care for all newborns and young children”. This is an urgent call to eliminate preventable harms in pediatric and neonatal care, building on the achievements of previous WHO campaigns on safe delivery, medication safety, health‑worker safety, diagnostic safety and patient participation, while affirming the right to safe, quality care for every child from the earliest days of life. At BV ĐHYD, these directions have been materialized through numerous practical solutions: essential care immediately after birth, skin‑to‑skin contact to help regulate temperature and bond mother‑child, guidance on exclusive breastfeeding, accurate patient identification, transport of infants in specialized cradles, and ensuring complete immunization. These are concrete actions aimed at reducing risks and improving the quality of care from the earliest days of life.

At the program, the staff – workers of ĐHYD Hospital participated in the online ceremony organized by the Ministry of Health, WHO in cooperation with the Central Pediatric Hospital, responding to World Patient Safety Day, recommending patient safety for the specialties of Obstetrics, Pediatrics, short plays, video clips about patient safety... Through this event, the Ministry of Health and health units across the country affirm their determination to build a safe medical examination and treatment environment, putting patients – especially children – at the center, for a healthy and sustainable future for the community.
