The work “Collection of Outstanding Clinical Cases” compiled by the University Medical and Pharmacy Hospital of Ho Chi Minh City (BV ĐHYD) has just been awarded the B Prize of the 8th National Book Award, one of the prestigious national awards that honors publications with outstanding content, academic value and contributions to societal knowledge development.
This year, the National Book Award Council awarded a total of 50 prizes, including 2 A prizes, 17 B prizes, 24 C prizes, 4 Encouragement prizes and 5 “Readers’ Favorite” books. The recognition of a medical specialty work at this award highlights the contributions of the medical field in advancing scientific knowledge and disseminating clinical expertise.
The work “Collection of Outstanding Clinical Cases” compiled by Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Hoang Bac – Hospital Director and Professor Dr. Truong Quang Binh – Chairman of the Hospital Scientific Council, Editor‑in‑Chief; Associate Professor Dr. Le Minh Khoi – Head of Science and Training Department as Chief Editor, together with many experts at BV ĐHYD. The project was highly evaluated by the Award Council for its professional value, practicality and applicability in training, research and clinical practice.
The book gathers 58 typical clinical cases selected from real‑world patient care at BV ĐHYD. The cases are analyzed from approach, diagnosis to treatment, helping physicians and medical students better understand clinical reasoning when handling complex pathological situations in practice.
According to Associate Professor Dr. Le Minh Khoi, the idea for the book originated from academic meetings and specialty briefings at the Hospital, where doctors regularly discuss and analyze difficult cases to extract lessons in diagnosis and treatment. From this practice, the editorial board systematized exemplary cases to create a valuable reference for the medical community.
The work’s recognition at the National Book Award not only acknowledges the research and editorial efforts of the physicians and experts at BV ĐHYD, but also affirms the role of the university hospital in tightly linking treatment – education – scientific research, thereby contributing to the sustainable development of Vietnamese medicine.
